Examining The Three Major Causes Of The Central Nervous System Disorder Known As Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a relatively common ailment, and it is commonly classified as a central nervous system disorder. To date, many studies have been conducted, which are all geared towards finding out the exact causes of this ailment. Fortunately, all those studies have enabled the medical community to get a grasp of this disease and what causes it. But there are underlying causes of this condition, and there are triggers as well, and both have to be identified. Management of this condition is definitely facilitated if we understood more about it and what causes it. We are going to look at three causes of this disease, although there are many other causes as well. These three major causes are exactly that: major. They are the most often spotted causes of the disease, as compared to the others.

As it turns out, the first major cause of fibromyalgia is stress. Many instances of fibromyalgia episodes are spurred on and stirred by stress. The disease could also be blamed on people having experience childhood stress. People who suffer from depression and stress  are also eventually vulnerable to fibromyalgia. If you compare children who had a depressing and problematic childhood to children who were stress-free, the former are actually much, much happier.

Changes in the brain's biochemistry as well as certain imbalance in the person's hormonal makeup is also another reason why fibromyalgia takes places. Deficiency in the growth hormones is being touted as one of the more pervasive causes. However, some medical experts agree that it is the other way around: growth hormone deficiency is a result of the condition known as fibromyalgia. Turning to changes in brain biochemistry, the names of the usual suspects - serotonin and dopamine - come up. Too little serotonin would be responsible for fibromyalgia happening. Fibromyalgia also exists if the brain does not have enough hypodopaminergia, which is another name for dopamine. These neurotransmitters could have abnormalities if the person is experiencing a lot of stress. But there is always the challenge of figuring out whether it is neurotransmitter abnormality that is causing the stress, or whether the stress is causing the neurotransmitter abnormality. We only know for sure that patients with fibromyalgia almost always suffer from these abnormalities in their neurotransmitters. But if patients wish to correct these neurotransmitter abnormalities, there are certain medications available to them.

Lack of sleep is also blamed to be another major cause of fibromyalgia. You will find several studies giving proof of how poor sleep can lead to this disease. We have discussed earlier about how stress and neurotransmitter abnormalities cause fibromyalgia. In a way, the principle is the same with poor sleep. However, there are also certain cases where lack of sleep alone can lead to this disease.
