Three Gonorrhea Complications That Warrant Immediate Attention And Treatment

Everyone is advised to seek medical attention and treatment immediately at the first sign of gonorrhea, even if it is merely a suspicion and there is nothing conclusive yet that establishes that fact. It does not even matter if you are showing symptoms or not. If you have reason to believe that you have been exposed to the disease, go to a doctor immediately. This disease is known to cause many complications, which makes it even more imperative that medical treatment be sought immediately. If the disease becomes untreated for a while, there are possible complications and they could get quite scary, too. Let us take a look at the three complications that terrify most people.

A person who does not have his or her gonorrhea treated is increasing the risk of becoming infertile. It is almost inevitable how people lose their reproductive capabilities if they do not have treatments for gonorrhea immediately. Since they could not reproduce, we are looking at the potential loss or end of lineages. Both men and women have equal risks of becoming infertile because of this disease. It is high time that we correct the wrong assumption about only the women being prone to infertility due to untreated gonorrhea. Men could also fall prey to this fate. Truth be told, men are actually more vulnerable and their infertility could prove to be incurable, as compared to that of women. Briefly stated, the exact mechanism through which this disease (if untreated) leads to infertility in men is where it causes the condition known as epididymitis. Among women, infertility caused by untreated gonorrhea takes place when pelvic inflammation disorder takes place. The infertility hence triggered can be very hard to deal with psychologically: when a person keeps on encountering other people's kids, and wishes that he or she could have some too. Treatments for infertility are sought at great cost. But curing the infertility is not something that can be accomplished most of the time, since it would already be too late before any action is being undertaken.

Sexually transmitted diseases and even HIV/AIDS are becoming more prevalent and people who fail to have their gonorrhea treated immediately becomes more vulnerable to them. In turn, these STDs could prove to be more detrimental to the person than the gonorrhea itself. It is not only the reproductive system that will be affected by the STDs. They could even threaten one's life.

It is highly possible for a systemic disease to arise from a case of gonorrhea. If it is untreated the joints could get affected. If you do not have it treated immediately, the microorganisms could even get into the bloodstream. The bloodstream could be a conduit for these microorganisms into reaching other parts of the body. This could result to the patient having some nasty rashes. Another result can be the (potentially debilitating) swelling and stiffness of joints. This complication could lead to fever or, worse, the eventual death of the patient with the untreated gonorrhea.
